First Round 2015 NFL Mock Draft

Written by:

**The picks listed below are strictly set for the teams staying in their perspective spots not taking into account trades.

1. Tampa Bay - Jameis Winston - (QB) / FSU

Tampa has no choice here unless they were to trade the pick but in staying with the pick they must address their glaring need for a quarterback & this is a weak QB class, so Winston would be the most ready and the one with the most experience in playing in a pro style offense.

2. Tennesse Titans - Amari Cooper - (WR) / Alabama

Most people out there have Marcus Mariota penciled in but only way I could for sure say that is if we knew exactly how team feels about young QB Zack Mettenberger. I feel Mettenberger has upside, big strong young man at 6'5 250 pounds with a big arm & only second year, if you look at team not many weapons to throw to in my opinion would not matter who qb's this team right now, so thats why i feel take the best WR in the class and that is Amari Cooper.

3. Jaguars - Leonard Williams - (DE) / USC

The jaguars did a good job last year adding some weapons on offense and adding a young qb with promise in blake bortles. The defense has added some veteran pieces like former miami dolphin DE/DT Jared Odrick, DE Chris Clemons, resigned MLB Paul Posluszny, but they are weak at DT & Leonard Williams can play both inside and end versatility is a plus and in most peoples mind best player in this years draft, team can always move odrick to DT and place Leonard Williams at the DE position.

4. Raiders - Kevin White - (WR) / West Virginia

I am not like most who believe in kevin white especially because I don't trust the offense he is coming from where there are constant moving parts, rely on trickery with the spread and option. I see tape of him where he is wide open thanks in part to the nature of the w.virginia offense which can lead to inflated numbers. Now he can run, clocked at 4.35 in the forty and that is the main reason I see raiders making a move on him, they can not help themselves to always try & draft the fastest guy available.

5. Redskins - Dante Fowler Jr. - (DE) / Florida Gators

With the departure of Brian Orakpo and the Redskins running a 3-4 defense this seems like the perfect fit especially with a player that has not reached his full potential. In florida played in different spots on the field never really got comfortable relied on pure athleticism and talent. I think he will convert to a better pro especially if he takes to being coached and works on his rush technique.

6. Jets - Marcus Mariota - (QB) / Oregon

I think by far he is not a finished product, he has some inconsistencies and the stigma in playing in fast paced option gimmicky offense which so far has not been kind to Qb's trying to convert to the NFL. The Jets do not really have a choice in this weak qb class as many saw Geno Smith does not seem to be the answer and as a plug they brought in Ryan Fitzpatrick. The scary part is you really do not know what your going to get in the pros with him, but you do know he is of high character, family oriented, trustworthy, will play hurt, runs well clocked at 4.5 in the forty, throws well on the run and is considered to be extremely coachable as per scouts.

7. Chicago Bears - Danny Shelton - (DT) / Washington

Right now bears are not that good defensively team had major problems stopping the run and the current DT's are not getting any younger. Danny Shelton can come in right away and contribute he is quite agile for a man his size, can dominate at the point of attack especially with his thick & powerful upperbody. The knock on him has been the consistent effort, but many people said the same about Haloti Ngata and you see the player he turned out to be.

8. Atlanta Falcons - Trae Waynes - (CB) / Michigan St.

When you first look at the team needs you almost want to add to the offensive line at RT & maybe draft Brandon Sherff to pair opposite of Jake Matthews but then when you really look deeper Trae Waynes would fit right in especially with a team that the defense needs improving and now you have Dan Quinn as head coach a former defensive coordinator who knows what good to great corners can do for your team. Waynes is bump and run corner with length and speed, ran the forty in 4.31, one thing that will need to be worked on is he is quite grabby and in this day an age of the NFL that will draw a flag, something he will need to work on.

9. Giants - Brandon Sherff - (OT/G) / Iowa

This young man is a beast, stud, versatile to play tackle & guard, plain old nasty, plays with a mean streak can instantly be plugged in to start. The Giants have John Jerry penciled in as the left guard so that would be an immediate upgrade. Just like last year Zack Martin was a tackle but was looked at more of an NFL guard coming out, this is what is being said by most scouts about Brandon Sherff and Eli Manning and that running game could use all the protection they can after last years tough season.

10. Rams - Ereck Flowers - (T) / Miami Hurricanes

This would be an area of need for the rams, right now going into the season at RT with Joe Barksdale, Ereck Flowers would be an immediate upgrade that has not even reached his ceiling has room to grow. HE is very physical, a run mauler, has the feet & quickness to be a good zone blocker and has played both tackle positions which would set up his opportunity to play RT since last year the team drafted LT Greg Robinson.

11. Vikings - Erick Kendricks - (LB) / UCLA

Vikings are going into the season right now with mlb Casey Matthews, Erick Kendricks was one of the most dependable and prodcutive tacklers in college football, can cover man to man in space, good sideline to sideline speed and is outstanding at changing direction. The negative is his size and that he was not an affective blitzer, but if the Vikings are looking for a playmaker on defense Kendricks fits.

12. Browns - Cameron Irving - (C/G) / FSU

Current center Alex Mack is coming back off a repaired broken leg and he could also opt out of his contract after this season, the team needs to start planning ahead for either a Mack who does not come back the same or because he decides not to return. Cameron Irving brings athleticism to the position considering he was once a defensive lineman, has good foot quickness, plays tough, brings versatility to the line and has plenty of room to grow, most scouts have commented on his ability & eagerness to want to develop.

13. Saints - Bud Dupree - (OLB) / Kentucky

In my opinion this would be a no brainer, especially with the saints really needing to improve on their defense. The saints have a need for a OLB who can rush the passer, with Dupree you have a freakish, explosive athlete who ran a 4.5 in the forty, has the power to set the edge and brings the pain when he hits you. The negative is that many scouts believe he relied heavily on his athleticism and has a bit of a slow reaction to dissecting plays.

14. Miami Dolphins - Devante Parker - (WR) / Louisville

The Dolphins this offseason traded away Mike Wallace, let Brian Hartline go and in turn sign Kenny Stills and Greg Jennings. The team still lacks a true number one WR, thats why with this pick I have them taking Devante Parker who is a big target at 6'3 & has lived up to the reputation of going after the ball, has outstanding body control, soft hands, ran the forty in 4.45 and has been known for producing explosive plays. The negative is that he will not over power cornerbacks, so will need to work on seperating from bump and run coverage.

15. San Francisco - Arik Armstead - (DE) / Oregon

The 49ers can go a few different ways here with this pick because WR is a need for them as is CB, but with the team not knowing the status of DE/Justin Smith, & really no depth behind him, I believe 49ers go Arik Armstead who brings his whole 6'7 frame with him at 293 pounds, has strong powerful hands, has an explosiveness about him off the snap, has good arm extension to control offensive lineman. The negative he is raw and will need some work.

16. Texans - Breshad Perriman - (WR) / UCF

When the team lost Andre Johnson that left a glaring need at WR opposite DeAndre Hopkins, Perriman is physically gifted at 6'2 212 pounds and can ran a 4.24 in the forty. He has physical traits and ability to hit the big play, now the bad is he has been known to have the drops, raw on route running and often relied too much on athleticism and speed over technique.

17. Chargers - Eddie Goldman - (DT) / FSU

The Chargers run a 3-4 defense and as of right now they are in need of an impact player at that position. Goldman is 6'4 336 pounds, he has the ability to discard blockers and provide power at the point of attack which is essential in a 3-4 style. Is known to be a run stuffer with plenty of upper body power. The negative and knock on him is lack of pass rush and ability to fit in a 4-3 but luckily for the chargers they dont have that problem with their scheme.

18. Chiefs - Kevin Johnson - (CB) / Wake Forest

The chiefs really only have one true CB & that is Sean Smith, this pick would help solidify the opposite side with a player who has some size for the position at 6'0, now his weight is a concern a little on the light side at 188 pounds. He has very good cover skills, is competitive and is not afraid to hit and support the run.

19. Browns - Maclom Brown - (DT) / Texas

The browns struggled stopping the run and also could use some depth in the middle of their defensive line, that is why I see Malcom Brown a good fit especially that he is athletic and extremely talented to constantly single block. Has great hands and instincts that allow him to get to the backfield quickly, the fact he would fit in a 4-3 or 3-4 scheme makes him very attractive.

20. Eagles - La'el Collins - (T) / LSU

The right guard position is up for grabs and left guard evan mathis is not happy with the team, so this would be almost a no brainer, especially that most scouts have Collins projected as a very good guard who could come in and play right away. Collins loves to smash and intimidate his opponent, is known to be a technically proficient run mauler and he can also play the tackle position which versatility is always a plus. The negative is the hand usage, especially in pass protection which is why most have him rated as a better guard.

21. Bengals - Andrus Peat - (T) / Stanford

The Bengals are getting a little old at the offensive tackle position, Peat is smart, a very good run blocker with pass protection ability, plays with leverage and is considered one of the most game ready offensive lineman in this draft class.

22. Steelers - Landon Collins - (SS) / Alabama

With the retirement of Troy Polamalu that leaves a void at SS, Landon Collins played at Alabama where he has been well coached by Nick Saban and played under a pro style defense. Collins is at his best when he can attack and use his aggressive style rather than sit back in coverage. Collins is very good at tackling, angles to the ball and his ability to disrupt. The negative is he will be tested by NFL offenses on his ability to cover, which is not his strong suit.

23. Lions - Melvin Gordon - (RB) / Wisconsin

The lions really do need a reliable running back who can come in right away an play, that is why I did not choose Todd Gurley, but instead went with Gordon. Melvin Gordon has the ability to create for himself, shifty in open field, has a burst and acceleration to turn a small gain into a big one. The knock on him has been his pass catching ability, but must say he did improve this past season, Must improve ball security and work on pass protection.

24. Arizona Cardinals - Vic Beasley - (OLB) / Clemson

The cardinals could use a pass rusher with his ability, Beasley can play inside and outside, has speed and explosion to harass any offense. Beasley real impressed and put on a show for scouts at the combine leaving many saying he was the best OLB in this class. The negative is once engaged & can not get passed blocker will give up, so needs to work on shedding blocks.

25. Carolina Panthers - Marcus Peters - (CB) / Washington

The Panthers need multiple positions addressed in this draft at first leading to a WR, but then I reviewed their CB situation and Charles Tillman is a aging veteran and opposite him they really don't have anyone, that is why sitting here at twenty-five Marcus Peters makes sense. He is a CB with good size, ball skills and no lack for confidence which NFL teams love, but he does come with some maturity issues. If the Panthers decide they can work with him, then they have themselves a raw but very talented CB.

26. Baltimore Ravens - Jalen Collins - (CB) / LSU

This is a big need for the Ravens, at this spot would be a very good value for need pick. Jalen Collins has what scouts call the trifecta speed, height and weight, he is still learning technique but he sure knows how to play the short and deep ball which is what has scouts taking notice.

27. Dallas Cowboys - Randy Gregory - (OLB) / Nebraska

The Cowboys defense is need of a talent infusion especially in the pass rush department, I know Randy Gregory has some cloud over him about a failed drug test, but who better then to give him a second chance. Randy is very raw, but the physical skills are through the roof, very tough and not afraid to take on pulling lineman. He is 6'5 235 pounds, ran the forty in 4.64.

28. Broncos - DJ Humphries - (T) / Florida Gators

Having Peyton Manning as QB there is never enough protection, especially with the QB and his recent health concerns. Humphries is a tough nasty lineman who stays aggressive and pissed off throughout a game, uses his length well and can get into the second level to block and create space. The negative is hand placement could improve and must work on finishing his blocks.

29. Colts - Todd Gurley - (RB) / Georgia

I see the Colts running back situation and I see this would be a great spot for Todd Gurly because he will not have that pressure to come in right away and produce. The colts this season signed RB Frank Gore who when its all said and done will be a hall of famer, but is no spring chicken at 31 years old this buys time for Gurley to recover fully from his injury & learn from one of thee best running backs in the NFL.

30. Green Bay Packers - Denzel Perryman - (MLB) / Miami Hurricanes

The packers have no worries on offense, so I see them concentrating to bolster their defense and one of their glaring holes is MLB. Perryman fits here because of his old school rugged physicality, plays angry at the point of attack, he is known as thumper always brings the wood, tackles and will make plays against the run. Denzel Perryman is a throw back style of player for the position, he really enjoys the physical part of the game. The negative is the size 5'11 236 pounds and that he could be a liability in man coverage.

31. Saints - Clive Walford - (TE) / Miami Hurricanes

Drew Brees was not happy once he got the news that he had lost TE Jimmy Graham one of his favorite targets. Their offense does not require an all pro WR that is why I see this pick being a perfect fit. Clive Walford has the size & speed 6'4 251 pounds ran a 4.7, was a dependable target, especially in the red zone for the miami hurricanes and QB Brad Kaaya. Walford has run after catch ability, has long arms and big hands to go get the ball.

32. Patriots - Jordan Phillips - (DT) / Oklahoma

There is a void left in ther middle of the Pats defense after Vince Wilfork left for the Texans, Jordan Phillips is 6'5 329 pounds a man his size has been regarded as having nimble feet. Phillips has been known to eat up blocks and be a dominant run stuffer. Majority of the scouts have no doubt he can play in a 3-4 or 4-3 but the 3-4 seems like the scheme that would get the most out of his talents.
